The term originates from the nickname of the protagonist Taro Yamada in the manga 'Dokaben,' and carries the nuance of a customer who is as devoted and enthusiastic as the character.

This term is primarily used in establishments such as soaplands and delivery health services. While such customers can be a stable source of income for the cast, excessive attachment can lead to financial troubles or dependency issues. Dokaben customers tend to generously pay nomination fees and optional charges, and frequently use services like dinner dates (dohan) and after-hours outings (after).
