Higashimatsuyama is a city of about 90,000 people located in central Saitama Prefecture, surrounded by the Hiki District. It's about an hour by train from Tokyo, a transport hub served by the Tobu Tojo Line and the Kan-Etsu Expressway, but it feels more like a quiet residential area than a tourist destination. The station front has supermarkets and restaurants, but shutters come down early on weekday nights.

Geographically, the city center spreads around Higashimatsuyama Station, with surrounding farmland and hilly terrain. Famous spots include the Peony Garden and Yakyu Inari Shrine, but there is no nightlife district to speak of.
