Kesennuma

Step into Kesennuma and the first things that hit you are the smell of the harbor and the cries of seagulls. Fishing boats come and go, and the market is piled with fresh seafood. At night, izakayas and snack bars light up, but there is no red-light district or adult venue concentration.

Kesennuma sits at the northeastern edge of Miyagi Prefecture, bordering Iwate. The city center is limited to the area around Kesennuma Station and the port, walkable in size. Tourists mainly come for the morning market and seafood.
