Kagoshima City's tourism site describes Tenmonkan as the largest amusement district in Southern Kyushu, with plenty of izakaya and bars and crowds especially on weekend evenings. The streets are covered by an arcade, and the nearest stop is Tenmonkan-dori on the city tram.
Kagoshima-Chuo Station is the terminus of the Kyushu Shinkansen, and the limousine bus from Kagoshima Airport arrives there too. The prefecture's tourism site shows rail and bus links from Kagoshima-Chuo or the airport to Kirishima-Jingu Station in Kirishima and JR Sendai Station in Satsumasendai.
Article 28 of the Entertainment Business Act bans storefront sex-related businesses within 200 metres of schools, libraries, child welfare facilities and other facilities a prefecture names by ordinance. Prefectures may also ban them in areas they designate, so where they may operate in Kagoshima is set by the prefectural ordinance.

The Kyushu Shinkansen opened between Shin-Yatsushiro and Kagoshima-Chuo in 2004 and between Hakata and Shin-Yatsushiro in 2011, and runs through to the Sanyo Shinkansen. JR Kyushu gives 4 hours at the fastest from Kagoshima-Chuo to Shin-Osaka on direct trains, with 24 direct trains a day.
From Kagoshima Airport the limousine bus takes about 38 minutes to Kagoshima-Chuo Station and about 1 hour 16 minutes to JR Sendai Station. From Kagoshima-Chuo to Kirishima-Jingu Station takes about 49 minutes on the Kirishima limited express with a change at Kokubu.

Kagoshima City has Tenmonkan and Kagoshima Chuo Station, Amami City has Amami Oshima, Kirishima City has Kokubun Central, Satsumasendai City has Sendai and Nishinoomote City has Tanegashima.
