Sano/Ashikaga

Sano and Ashikaga are neighboring cities in southern Tochigi Prefecture. Sano is a local city famous for Sano ramen, while Ashikaga is a historic town known for Ashikaga School and textiles. Both are about 1.5 hours from Tokyo by train, but tourists rarely visit at night.

The adult entertainment scene in both cities centers on delivery health (deliheru) and hotel health (hoteheru), scattered around the station areas. There are a few shops with signs near Sano and Ashikaga stations, but the scale is small and there is no concentrated red-light district.

Delivery health and hotel health are the main categories, with prices ranging from 12,000 to 18,000 yen for 60 minutes—cheaper than in central Tokyo. Storefront operations are rare; the typical style is dispatch to hotels. Foreigner-friendly services are limited, and not speaking Japanese can make it difficult to use.

Most shops close by 10 PM, so late-night options are scarce. The clientele is mainly local office workers and tourists, and weekends can be busy, but overall it's a quiet area.

Access is via JR Ryomo Line at Sano Station or Ashikaga Station. From Tokyo, take the Tohoku Shinkansen to Oyama Station and transfer to the Ryomo Line. Driving is also possible, with coin parking near the stations.

When visiting, it's best to make a reservation by phone or online in advance. Most shops only speak Japanese, so bring a Japanese-speaking friend or a translation app. Cash is standard; many shops don't accept credit cards.
