Akihabara/Kanda

Step out of Akihabara Station and you're hit by giant electronics and anime store signs. During the day it's packed with tourists and shoppers, but at night the Kanda office side goes quiet, with neon lights flickering in the backstreets.

The area centers on JR Akihabara Station, split between the Akihabara side along Chuo Dori and the office district toward Kanda Station. On the Kanda side, narrow alleys mix old izakayas and ramen shops, with adult venues scattered among them.

The adult scene is dominated by delivery health and hotel health. Many hotel health shops operate around the love hotel cluster near Akihabara Station. Delivery health shops often have offices in Kanda office buildings, catering to businessmen who call them to their hotels. Prices: delivery health around ¥12,000–18,000 for 60 minutes, hotel health ¥15,000–25,000 for 60 minutes. There are a few pink salons offering quick, cheap sessions. SM clubs are a handful of specialized shops popular with those seeking serious play.

For foreign visitors, it's possible to combine Akihabara's otaku culture with adult entertainment. However, delivery health and hotel health mostly operate in Japanese; English-friendly shops are limited. Pink salons are relatively easy to enter, but you must follow the rules.

Access is easiest via JR Akihabara Station. Operating hours vary, but delivery health and hotel health often run late into the night. Pink salons are open from daytime. SM clubs usually require reservations.
