Ono is a quiet residential city spread along the Ono River, a tributary of the Kako River, in the center of Hyogo Prefecture. Ono Station sits at the city's core, surrounded by housing and small commercial areas, but there is no red-light district or nightlife zone to speak of.

Geographically, Ono lies between Himeji and Miki, with car travel being the primary means of transport. The JR Kakogawa Line runs through the city, but trains are infrequent. Accommodation options are limited, and the city feels more oriented toward local residents than visitors.
