Tsuchiura/Tsukuba/Surrounding Area

Step out of the Tsuchiura Station rotary and you'll see a typical provincial city scene with chain izakayas and family restaurants. Tsukuba, as a planned research city, has a spacious station front. Both are quiet on weekday nights with few pedestrians.

Tsuchiura Station is on the JR Joban Line, Tsukuba Station on the Tsukuba Express, both directly connected to Tokyo. Business hotels cluster around both stations, and adult businesses have grown to serve business travelers. Shops are concentrated around Tsuchiura Station's north exit, Tsukuba Station, and along the national highway connecting the two cities.

The adult scene here is dominated by delivery health (deliheru) and fashion health. Soaplands and pink salons are virtually absent. Delivery health sends girls to your hotel, with rates around ¥12,000–18,000 for 60 minutes. Fashion health is store-based at similar prices.

There are about 50–70 shops total in Tsuchiura and Tsukuba combined. Some operate from signboards in station-area multi-tenant buildings, others are appointment-only apartment-type shops. Foreigner-friendly shops are limited; many will refuse service if you don't speak Japanese.

Access: 45 minutes from Tokyo to Tsukuba Station via Tsukuba Express, 60 minutes to Tsuchiura Station via JR Joban Line. Typical hours are noon to midnight. Weekends are busy, but weekday afternoons are relatively quiet.

To use, advance reservation by phone or web is mandatory. Some shops require ID. If you're not confident in Japanese, bring a Japanese friend or research shops that accept foreigners beforehand.
