Ikebukuro Area

Ikebukuro's nightlife shows two different faces on the east and west sides. Exit the east gate and neon signs from multi-tenant buildings hit your eyes. Touts stand on the street, and up the stairs you'll find soapland and pink salon reception desks.

Geographically, the east side around Ikebukuro Station is the main entertainment district. The west side has a calmer atmosphere, centered on hotel health and esthetic shops. Everything is within walking distance from the station, with excellent access.

The variety of adult services is abundant. On the east side, there are over a dozen soaplands and more than 20 pink salons clustered together. Delivery health is also common, while hotel health is concentrated on the west side. Prices are reasonable: soaplands start at ¥15,000 for 30 minutes, pink salons at ¥3,000 for 10 minutes.

Foreign customers may be turned away at soaplands, but pink salons and delivery health are more accepting. English-friendly shops are increasing.

Visiting on weeknights is recommended; weekends get crowded. Police patrol the station area frequently, so follow the rules to avoid trouble.

Bring cash. Many shops don't accept credit cards. When following a tout, always confirm the price before entering.
