Also known as shinjuku-gyoen
Shinjuku Gyoen is the national garden that GO TOKYO describes as former Imperial grounds, together with the area around it. Its gates are reached from Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, from Shinjuku and from Sendagaya.
The Ministry of the Environment's access page puts Okido Gate 5 minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. Shinjuku Gate is approached from Shinjuku Station's South Exit or Shinjuku-sanchome Station, and Sendagaya Gate from JR Sendagaya Station on the Sobu Line, so each gate has its own nearest station.
GO TOKYO presents Shinjuku Gyoen as a national garden with well-kept lawns on what were once the Imperial gardens, and suggests taking in Shinjuku's cityscape from there. This page covers the garden and the neighbourhood around it.
