Makuhari New Town

Getting there

The nearest station is Kaihin-Makuhari on the JR Keiyo Line, with trains toward Tokyo and Maihama in one direction and Soga in the other. It is the same line that serves Maihama for Tokyo Disney Resort, so there is no change from Tokyo Station. Makuhari Messe is five minutes on foot from the station.

The Perie Kaihin-Makuhari shopping complex attached to the station and the station plaza are the starting point; the hotels and convention facilities are within walking distance from there. Kaihin-Makuhari Station opened in 1986 and has been developed as the gateway to the new town.

How the district is laid out

Makuhari New Town began with the opening of Makuhari Messe in 1989 and covers a planned 522 hectares combining work, housing, education and leisure. The town-centre zone around the station holds the shops and hotels; Makuhari Seaside Park, ZOZO Marine Stadium and the Makuhari Bay Town residential area are also part of the new town.

Because visitors stay here around events at Makuhari Messe, calling a service to your hotel is the usual way to use it. The business types RED LIGHT JAPAN lists for Makuhari New Town are shown in the venue list and categories on this page.

Good to know

Under Chiba City's ordinance, the JR Kaihin-Makuhari Station district (part of Hibino 1- and 2-chome, Mihama Ward) is a no-touting zone. Touting, waiting for customers and scouting are banned; repeat violations carry a fine of up to 50,000 yen and publication of the person's name. Before calling a dispatch service, check that your hotel allows visitors to rooms.
