Gion is the area you reach by crossing Shijo Bridge eastward; the Kyoto City Tourism Association describes it as the home of two hanamachi, Gion Kobu and Gion Higashi.
The closest station is Keihan's Gion-Shijo, on the Keihan Main Line and the Oto Line, and its station page lists the Hankyu Kyoto Line as another operator's line. Coming from Kyoto Station, the tourism association points to city buses 86, 106 and 206, riding from the Kyoto-ekimae stop to the Gion stop.
In the association's words, teahouses and restaurants line Hanamikoji and the side lanes around it. Its English pages mention Gion together with Pontocho as hanamachi where maiko and geiko can sometimes be seen walking.
This page has no listings for Gion yet, and any that are added will show up here. Kyoto listings sit on the Kyoto City page; close by, the Kawaramachi/Kiyamachi/Pontocho and Karasuma / Omiya / Nishin pages each carry listings too.
Kyoto City has enforced its ordinance prohibiting touting and similar conduct since 1 April 2015. Gion lies inside one of the zones it designates, the Gion–Kawaramachi district, and the city gives guidance to anyone found breaking the rule there.
It depends on the venue. Each venue page lists the languages it handles, and the “English OK” filter in search narrows results to venues with English support.
Payment methods vary by venue. Check the listing and confirm with the venue before booking.
