Seibu-Yanagisawa, Tanashi, Hanakoganei

Step off the Seibu Shinjuku Line at any of these stations, and you'll find a residential area so quiet it's hard to believe you're in Tokyo. Seibu-Yanagisawa, Tanashi, and Hanakoganei are far from the city's hustle, retaining a strong local, everyday atmosphere.

The area stretches north-south along the Seibu Shinjuku Line. Each station has a small shopping street and a supermarket, but after dark, foot traffic dwindles and silence takes over.

In the adult entertainment scene, this is not a flashy district. A handful of delivery health (deriheru) and hotel health (hoteheru) shops operate discreetly in residential buildings or small offices a short walk from the stations. You can count them on one hand, and prices are slightly lower than central Tokyo.

These shops mainly cater to local regulars. They are not actively seeking new customers or foreign tourists. Without fluent Japanese, using them is difficult.

Access is via the Seibu Shinjuku Line. None of these stations are served by express trains, so you'll need a local train. Operating hours extend late into the night, but be mindful of the last train.
