Namba and Shinsaibashi are the heart of Minami in Chuo Ward, Osaka, two neighbouring stops on the Midosuji Line. The entertainment district runs north and south of the Dotonbori canal, and this is the busiest night-time area in the city.
Namba Station is where the Osaka Metro Midosuji (M20), Yotsubashi (Y15) and Sennichimae (S16) lines meet, with connections to JR, Hanshin, Kintetsu and Nankai. From Kansai International Airport, Nankai trains bring you straight to Namba. Shinsaibashi is on the Midosuji (M19) and Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi (N15) lines, with a transfer to Yotsubashi (Y14) on the Yotsubashi Line.
From Shin-Osaka or Umeda it is one ride on the Midosuji Line, reaching Shinsaibashi and then Namba. After the last train it is taxis or walking, so a hotel along the Midosuji Line keeps things simple. Shinsaibashi and Namba are neighbouring stops on the line.
Dotonbori is Minami's signature street, lined with giant three-dimensional signs and a short walk from Namba Station. The Shinsaibashi-suji arcade runs north from it, and the blocks around Dotonbori such as Soemoncho are the centre of the night. Whether a venue page names Namba or Shinsaibashi as its station decides which exit you walk from.
Under Osaka's prefectural ordinance, soapland baths, storefront fashion health shops and hotel-health reception offices may not operate anywhere in the prefecture, so venues listed in Minami are dispatch services such as delivery health that come to your hotel. The business types RED LIGHT JAPAN lists for Namba and Shinsaibashi are shown in the venue list and categories on this page.
Under Osaka's city ordinance, part of the Minami district has been a no-touting zone since 27 October 2014. Since 2025 the city has repeatedly published the names of people who kept touting on Dotonbori and Soemoncho after an order to stop; violations carry a fine of up to ¥50,000. Do not go with anyone who invites you in from the street; contact venues directly through the details on their listings.
